Hello Pickleballers of Northwest New Mexico!

Despite it being winter and outdoor play being limited, pickleball is still going strong around here! The San Juan College tournament just finished up. This was the largest tournament San Juan College has hosted so far. The competition was great and the players had a lot of fun. Congrats to those who medaled, and thank you to everybody who participated.

The San Juan College intramurals are getting ready to start, and that will help us get through the rest of winter.

With warmer weather approaching, we’ve got our eyes on a bunch of different events, leagues, and tournaments.  Here’s what’s on the horizon:

April 16^th – Beginning of NWNMPB Club Spring League.  We’ll be running a spring league one night a week.  This is going to be a team format similar to the Rally in the Valley event last fall, but we’re looking at potentially six or more teams of eight players. Your team will go head-to-head with a different team each week.

May 4^th – In the morning, there will be a pickleball workshop for beginners in preparation for Senior Olympics. Later that day, we plan to have a Club Swap Meet/Demo Day. You’ll have the opportunity to buy, sell, or trade your current pickleball gear. Also, any members who rep or demo pickleball equipment for any brand can set up to let members demo their gear.  We’re going to finish that day up with a team event like the Rally in the Valley we did last fall in Aztec.

May 18^th - 19^th – Senior Olympics. For those of you 50 years and older, get ready to go for the Senior Olympic gold!

June 15^th – 16^th – NWNMPB Tournament. We are planning a full-fledged two-day tournament hosted by NWNMPB Club.  This tournament will be open to both club members and outsiders.

July 12^th – Aztec event. The club will be hosting a pickleball event in Aztec. The format is TBD.

September 10^th – Club Fall League. This will be the anticipated start date for a multi-week fall league.

September 14^th – NWNMPB Club Social Event/Competition. This will be our club social event/potluck for members only. We’ll have a day of competition, hanging out as a club, and enjoying all the great potluck items our members bring.

December 7^th – Jingle and Mingle. Get ready to mix it up with some holiday season pickleball while we raise money for a worthy cause!

As you can see, we plan to make 2024 an awesome year for pickleball in the Four Corners area. This is just a peek at what we’re looking at.  More details and information will be posted on the website at www.northwestnewmexicopickleball.org as we get closer.  Lastly, we can’t do it alone.  We’re going to need club member volunteers for different events, so please consider helping out when the time comes.

Lastly, I’ve seen a ton of new faces at the courts. Are you a member of the Northwest New Mexico Pickleball Club yet? If not, you might miss out on some of these awesome events. Hey there Northwest New Mexico Pickleballers!

The club's new member management system/website is up and running!  Have you had a chance to look around?  Here are a few things you might want to check out!

-Take a look at your profile

Access your profile by logging in and then clicking on your name at the top of the website.  Here you'll see your profile information including your membership information and renewal date.  

You can click on Edit Profile and change some of your info.  You can add a photo for the member directory, add your current rating, and update your emergency contact among other things. 

This is a good place to start if it's your first time logging in.  If you're a member and haven't logged in yet, you'll need to click Forgot Password the first time in order to get a password set up.

-See what Events are happening

Click on the Events tab to see what club events are coming up.  You'll also see information about other events happening around the region.

-Get the latest club information

Click on the News tab if you want to see what's going on with the club.  There's a Facebook feed for our Northwest New Mexico Pickleball page.  This is a great way to see what's happening on the club's social media even if you don't have a Facebook account.

You'll also find our blog posts (like you're reading now).

-Check out Members content

If you're a member and you're logged in, you'll be able to view the Members pages.

You'll find our Club Benefits page with discounts available to our club members.  You'll be able to see our Member Directory.  In the future we'll have our Bylaws listed as well as our Club Director information.

-Not a member yet?

If you're not a member yet, click on that Membership tab.  You'll be able to sign up for a club membership and get access to all the great things we do. We're trying to bring value to all our members with things like leagues, tournaments, social events, and club discounts.

Most importantly, your membership helps us continue to advocate for and expand the sport of pickleball in our region!

-What's in the works?

We've still got more stuff coming.  In the near future, we'll have our online payment system activated.  You'll be able to pay for your membership or renewal online in real time.  You'll also be able to pay for club league or tournament fees at the time you register.

There will be a Club Store on the website in the future.  You'll be able to buy some club apparel or other swag online.  It's important to play good, but you oughta be looking good while you're doing it!

We are still in the process of obtaining our 501c7 non-profit.  Once we get the bureaucracy navigated, we'll be holding a membership meeting and we'll conduct officer elections for the club.  We'll put out more information as the process progresses.

Welcome to the new home of Northwest New Mexico Pickleball! Whether you are a member or just taking a peek, we're glad you are here.  Things are moving along quickly with the new website, the new membership management system, and more events coming up in the near future.

If you are a member, make sure you log in and update your profile information.  You can add or change your emergency contact, add your rating if you like, or even post the best pickleball pic of yourself!

In the near future, I'll be adding a dedicated events page to list our own club events plus other events happening around the area.  For now, don't forget about the San Juan College Tournament coming up at the end of September.  Here's the link if you haven't signed up yet.

And of course, we have the Rally in the Valley Team Battle coming up in October.  That registration will be opening up October 2nd right here on our website, so watch for that.
